CUBA

The Family Trip

Every few years my family goes to Cuba for a family vacation. They've gone three times now, I've gone twice. In 2018 we returned to our traditional resort and my brought my cameras! I really wanted to bring the drone, but it's super illegal there, so no deal. I wish I could say my trip to Cuba was an excited and dramatic as the trip to Iceland, but sorry- it really wasn't.

The goal for this trip was to get as drunk as possible for as long as possible. We agreed to do no trips outside the resort (against my vote), and just hang out for the week. Before we left, I was incredibly excited to go. I was working hard at home shooting concerts every weekend and I felt like I deserved a break. Then it happened...

A week before we left for Cuba, I met my girlfriend and suddenly didn't want to go as bad. I decided to get a roaming package on my phone so I could text her while I was gone, and apparently a lot of the drunk messages I sent her were pretty entertaining... but to the point!

Ethan, Liam, and I got to share our own little bungalow hotel while my mom and Logan (the youngest) shared their own. Lucas (from the Iceland trip) didn't come with us. It was fun the three of us hanging out all week. Ethan and I drank all sorts of alcohol while Liam essentially babysat us. It was great!

I remember (not so well) one night in particular where Ethan and I had maybe a little too much to drink at one of the 24 hour bars and started running through the giant resort with no pants on. I wish I taken more photos of the resort to fully show what I'm talking about, but Liam had to chase us both around trying to get us under control. Poor kid probably needs therapy.

Looking back at the trip, I spent too much of my time moping around wanting to go back home. I barely took any photos, and I don't think I took a single video. I sat at the beach, or by the pool reading "Endurance" by astronaut Scott Kelly, a gift Denny gave me before I left. I should have spent more time drinking and enjoying the time with my family. I'm excited to go back, and maybe this time bring Denny!
